2025 Trends in Home Design and Renovation

I have spent the last few days at The International Builders Show, which draws over 100,000 people in the building and design industries. It covers the entire Las Vegas Convention Center; that’s 4.6 million square feet of space! The multiple expo and product areas, education classes and keynote speakers make this a valuable convention for anyone in real estate sales, development and construction.

And now, I’m sharing the best insider information and the latest products with you!

Design Trends

  1. Color: No more gray tones. It’s all about color! Green is the most popular emerging trend, and classic blue in all shades continues to be a favorite. Oxblood and cherry are bringing red back to the spotlight. But color isn’t just on walls; tile, appliances, outdoor decks and toilets all have new hues to customize your home. PPG Purple Basil and Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate are top trending colors.

  2. Pattern: Checkerboard is the hottest trend in home design. Checkerboard appeared on wallpaper and fabrics and in tile patterns. Terrazzo continues to be a favorite and now comes in skinny rectangles to create your own bold wall patterns or to use as accents. Check out the amazing tiles from Emser and Dal

  3. Textures: Texture is on everything. Fluted is the clear favorite. We saw it on walls, tub surrounds and tile. Grooved painted walls are also on trend. Moen’s Cambium plumbing line (launching in Q3) combines two trends: matte black finish with a fluted texture.

  4. Finishes: If you’re not a fan of shiny chrome, your time has come. Matte black, bronzed gold and brushed copper are bringing new options to your plumbing fixtures and appliance handles. We also saw lots of leather and wood cabinet pulls.

Renovation Data for Your Next Project

If you’ve been thinking about a home renovation project, you’re not alone! More homeowners are choosing to stay in their current house for a variety of reasons (aging in place, low mortgage interest rate, etc). Renovations help to make their home more accessible and sustainable. Thanks to the pros at Houzz, here are some helpful stats  to know about the current state of home renovations for kitchens, baths and outdoor spaces:

56% of homeowners that renovate are Baby Boomers. This generation has the time, money and need to age in place.

81% of kitchen renovations change styles with Transitional being the most popular.

Glass front cabinets are the most popular accent cabinet with open shelves moving down in popularity.

Green cabinets are the emerging trend with blue following close behind. White Oak remains the top natural wood choice.

79% of bathrooms change styles with Transitional being the top choice (same as kitchen).

26% choose wood as their bathroom vanity choice.

54% of bathroom remodels either remove the tub or don’t add one.

53% of all renovations include upgrading outdoor areas- expanding living and entertaining areas and/or improving aesthetics.

Lighting and irrigation are top outdoor system upgrades.
