Gardening Tips for Middle TN

Whether you have a large backyard or a modest balcony, gardening is quickly becoming one of the most popular pastimes for homeowners and renters alike. If you are interested in beautiful blooms or a productive veggie garden, here are some things that are sure fire winners in the Greater Nashville Area. (Zone 7)

One of my personal favorites when it comes to perennials are Peonies. A hardy and gorgeous bloom that comes back every year, mid spring to bring any garden back to life after a dull winter. There are so many different varieties, there’s surely something for eveyone. You can plant in the spring if you are working with the full plant, but if you only have bulbs, it’s best to wait until fall. Other popular blooms include Black Eyed Susans, Butterfly Bushes and Petunias and different varieties of Lavender.

More interested in creating your own farm to table experience at home? The best vegetables to plant in spring include lettuce, onions, potatoes, some peas, and asparagus. They can stand the cooler temperatures of early spring. Later in the spring, the tomatoes will come calling. There are many different sizes and flavors to choose from and typically grow well in a nice sunny spot with regular watering.

Whichever adventure you choose, gardening can bring zen to your mind or your tastebuds this spring!
