Green Home Maintenance Tips

Eco-friendly practices not only make sense for our planet – they make sense for our wallets too. Here are some of our favorite “green” tips for your home:

Jennifer says “Keep heat out with window coverings”.

According to the US Department of Energy, approximately 76% of sunlight that falls on windows enters the home as heat energy. In the warmer months of spring and summer, keep your windows covered with darkening curtains, shades or blinds to keep your home’s temperature low (and keep the electricity bill low too!)

Lila says “Invest in house plants”.

House plants are natural filters and air purifiers. Ask your local plant experts for the best ones, based on sunlight and water needs. Our favorite shops in Nashville are Flora Plant Shop and Lawrence & Clarke Cacti Co.

Chris says “Use natural or homemade cleaning products”.

Sustainable and eco-friendly living includes the reduction or elimination of harmful chemicals in your house. Cleaning supplies are one source of such chemicals. Look for products that do not contain dye or synthetic fragrance. Go a step further and use items such as baking soda and vinegar to keep your home clean. Natural cleaning tips and product recipes can be found here.
