It’s Gonna Be…May Home Maintenance

May is a fantastic month to get your outdoor spaces ready for the season. It’s not too hot yet, so get your patios, decks and landscaping in tip-top shape. Here are a few big-impact tasks, courtesy of Realtor.com

Mulch Flower Beds

Why is mulching beneficial? It prevents evaporation and helps keep weeds at bay. Ideally, 2 to 4 inches of mulch will provide the most benefit to your flower beds.

Pro Tip: Set aside a mulching day and have a landscaping service deliver bulk mulch and dump it where you can get to it easily (like your driveway). Plan on 1 cubic yard of mulch to cover 100 square feet, with mulch 3 inches deep. In Nashville, try Bates Nursery or Holy Cow! Soils for this service.

Wash Windows

Winter grime and early spring rain can leave your windows dirty. Clear up your view and let that sunshine in!

Pro Tip: Have a partner clean the outside while you do the inside of the same window. That way, you can identify which side of the glass contains streaks and smudges, and get rid of them on the spot. Many hands make light work, right?

Service Your Grill

Get your grill ready for the season. Invest in a durable grill brush and get scrubbing!

Pro Tip: Remove grates and metal plates and soak in soapy water for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing. Rinse with a hose.
